Orthopedic surgeon and award-winning writer Michael S. Lewis describes his journey from growing up in Houston, Texas, in the 1950s to becoming a team orthopedic surgeon for the NBA championship Chicago Bulls “The Last Dance” team.
Along the way he shares the wisdom he’s learned from enlightened teachers, such as his mentor Abraham Maslow, father of American psychology, as well as witty anecdotes, fascinating behind-the-scenes stories and inspiring lessons from the likes of Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippin, Dennis Rodman, and Phil Jackson.
Dr. Lewis has been an orthopedic consultant to professional sports teams including baseball’s Chicago White Sox and basketball’s Chicago Bulls, with whom he earned two championship rings. He currently practices orthopedic surgery at the Illinois Bone and Joint Institute.
He has published six books, including One World: A View of Seven Continents (as seen on PBS TV), Seeing More Colors: A Guide to a Richer Life, and An Invitation to Joy: Viewing Birds on Seven Continents. He has recently been honored as a noted Chicago author at the annual Chicago Public Library Carl Sandburg Literary Awards Dinner. He lives in the Chicago area with his wife Valerie.
